# Managing Shifts

> How to create, edit, and delete shifts

## Before you start

Open **Employees → Shifts**, choose the date and creator you are planning for, and check your time zone in **Settings → Your Preferences**. Your role needs **View Shifts** plus the matching **Add**, **Edit**, or **Delete** action.

## Creating a shift

1. Click **Create Shift** or click on an empty cell
2. Fill in the form:

| Field | Description |
| - | - |
| Time zone | Current Preferences time zone, shown read-only and saved with the new shift |
| Start | Start date and time |
| + Duration | Quick select: +4h, +5h... +12h |
| End | End date and time |

The time picker supports both 24-hour and 12-hour (AM/PM) formats.

| Field | Description |
| - | - |
| Creator | One or multiple creators |
| Employee | One or multiple employees |

3. Click **Save**

**Done when:** the shift appears on the calendar with the intended creator, employee, dates, and saved time zone.

### Duration shortcuts

The button between start and end allows quick selection:

* +4h, +5h, +6h, +7h, +8h, +9h, +10h, +11h, +12h

Your selection is remembered for future shifts.

### Defaults

The system remembers your last values:

* Duration shortcut selection
* Start date and time
* Selected creators
* Selected employees

<Note>
  These defaults are saved locally on your device. They don't sync between browsers or devices.
</Note>

## Editing a shift

On a desktop with a mouse, click a shift or hover it and use **Edit shift**. On a touch screen, tap the shift: if both edit and delete are available, choose **Edit shift** from the action menu; if edit is the only allowed action, the editor opens directly. The action appears only when your role can edit shifts.

The same form opens with current data.

An existing shift keeps its saved time zone in the editor. To schedule future work in another zone, change **Settings → Your Preferences** before creating the new shift; changing Preferences does not reinterpret existing shifts.

## Deleting a shift

On a desktop with a mouse, hover over a shift and use **Delete shift**. On a touch screen, tap the shift: if both actions are available, choose **Delete shift** from the action menu; if delete is the only allowed action, its confirmation opens directly. Confirm the deletion; the action appears only when your role can delete shifts.

<Warning>
  Deletion is irreversible.
</Warning>

## Common issues

| Issue | What to check |
| - | - |
| **Create Shift** is missing | Your role needs the **Add** action for shifts. |
| An employee or creator is missing | Check your filters, creator assignments, and data scope. |
| The saved time is not what you expected | Check the time zone shown in the form. Existing shifts keep the zone saved when they were created. |
| A shift cannot be edited or deleted | Your role needs the corresponding **Edit** or **Delete** action. |
