# Auto-Update

> Keep your AgencyKey desktop application up to date

Auto-Update keeps AgencyKey Desktop on the latest stable version. It is available in the desktop app only; the web version is updated automatically by AgencyKey.

## How auto-update works

### 1. Background check and download

AgencyKey checks for a new stable version when the app starts and while it remains open. When an update is available, it downloads silently in the background. You can keep working during the download, and no confirmation is required to start it.

### 2. Update ready

When the download finishes, the **Update Ready** dialog appears:

* **Title:** Update Ready
* **Message:** confirms the new version has been downloaded
* **Buttons:** **Install Now** / **Install Later**

| **Install Now**   | The app closes and restarts on the new version                                                                                                  |
| **Install Later** | The update is held. It installs automatically the next time you quit the app, or immediately if you choose **Install Update** from the App menu |

After you pick **Install Later**, the **Check for Updates** menu item is replaced with **Install Update** so you can apply the update whenever you're ready.

## Update Required window

Most updates download in the background and wait until you are ready to restart. If your installed version is too old to continue, AgencyKey shows an **Update Required** window.

This window is different from the usual update flow above. It appears on its own, takes over the screen, and walks you through a single update from start to finish.

### What you see

| Element        | What it means                                      |

There is just one button to press. Its label changes as the update runs, so you can always tell what stage you're at:

| Checking…               | Looking for the new version                |
| Downloading…            | Download is starting                       |
| Downloading \[percent]% | Download in progress, with live percent    |
| Installing…             | The app is installing and about to restart |
| **Try Again**           | Something needs a retry — see below        |

### How to update

**1. Press Update Now**

One press starts everything — the app finds the new version, downloads it, installs it, and restarts on its own. No extra prompts along the way.

**2. Watch the progress**

A thin progress bar fills up as the new version downloads, and the percent appears right on the button, so you can see how far along it is.

**3. The app restarts on its own**

Once the download finishes, the app installs the update and restarts into the new version automatically. The accounts you had open before the update reopen on their own, so you pick up right where you left off.

  Even if several things hit the version limit at the same time, you still see exactly one **Update Required** window — not a pile of pop-ups.

### If no update is ready yet

Sometimes the new version isn't published yet when the window appears. In that case you'll see a short message — "No update is available yet. Please try again in a moment." — and the button changes to **Try Again**. Wait a moment, then press **Try Again** to retry.

If the update can't finish (for example, the connection drops), you'll see a short note in red and the same **Try Again** button so you can have another go.

  Closing the **Update Required** window quits the app. Because the installed version can no longer work with the service, there's nothing to go back to — the quickest way forward is to press **Update Now**.

<Tip>
  On macOS, run AgencyKey from your **Applications** folder. If the app is launched from **Downloads** or straight from the installer image, the update can't install itself — move AgencyKey to **Applications** and try again.

## Manual update check

You can check for updates any time:

1. Open the **App menu** at the top
2. Click **Check for Updates**
3. AgencyKey checks for the latest stable version and downloads it in the background when needed

If an update is already downloaded and waiting, this menu item is replaced with **Install Update**.

## What gets updated

Each update may include:

* New features and improvements
* Bug fixes and stability improvements
* Security patches
* User interface enhancements

## Important information

* Stable updates download silently in the background
* Your data and account sessions are preserved during updates
* You can keep working while an update downloads
* **Install Later** applies the update the next time you quit the app

## Troubleshooting

### Update not working?

1. Check your internet connection
2. Try **Check for Updates** from the App menu
3. Restart AgencyKey Desktop and check again
4. If the problem continues, download the latest installer from the official page below
